How many US MRE a day???

Hi all

Have a question about US MRE
In Denmark we always get a 24 MRE pack with 3 meal, and snacks
But many other countries uses this 8/12 hours pack with 1 meal and snack,

How do the it work for the soldier in the field, do he get, 2-3 MRE a day?
And what about breakfast?

They have a nice size thougt and handy

Thx in advance
Thorbjørn

Yes, actually it´s three MREs a day.
Americans don´t eat "continental breakfast" as we do, they had several breakfast MREs with e.g. omelette.

It´s no extra if you have to deliver a case of 24hrs rations or a case of MREs.
Get a French ration, it´s a 24hrs ration with also no "continental breakfast" but an inflatable croissant

Actually when we deploy or train we usually only get one to two MRE's a day and the support units usually supply at least one hot meal a day (UGR usually). This can vary sometimes for example; one MRE for lunch and two hot meals - one for breakfast, dinner (UGR or Hot A-B rations). Or, an MRE for breakfast and lunch and a hot meal for dinner (UGR - Hot A-B ration). It has been my experience that if they are only going to give you one hot meal a day its usually dinner.

When we get MRE's usually we just open a case and grab whatever is in the box. Picky soldiers usually don't get what they want.... lol!

Cavguy is correct on how it was for us in the 89's/90's in the Army. We usually only got 1 hot meal (breakfast or dinner) and 2 MREs per day.

The first to bring you the MRE pizza stone.

At least in the 1980's, we got 2 MRE's to pack, and 1 hot, off the Deuce-and-half, per 24 hours, in the field. Actually, us US Panzer-Grenadiers(mechanized Infantry) had a couple unopened cases bouncing around in the back of our M113, mostly, so nobody starved. LOL. Hope this helps. ;)

After the Chicken and the Egg, came the "Omelet"!

The cases where you would be eating 3 MREs a day would be rather rare; perhaps an initial invasion, disaster response or other scenario where the infrastructure isn't quite together yet. But, I wouldn't anticipate that occurring for more than a few days, even with most of the food for modern operations being provided by contractors, things get set up pretty quick with tents and modular field kitchens.

Thx for all ur respons, and now it is clear why u have these 8 hours ration, its easier to get them "right" amount of ration, when mixed with hot meals.
In the 80-90 in Denmark we seldom had hot meal, in the field, it was either MRE or camp. But I can see how that yours is more flexible
Thx Thorbjørn

I can shed some light on the wildland firefighter side of things. When we dispatch to a fire we are required to be self sufficient for at least 24 hours, preferably 48 hours, including water. I've been on the ops side and on the logistics side.

Usually, for the first operational period or two (24-48 hours) you're eating MRE's only. Once the logistics and a base camp get put in place we can start providing 3 meals a day in camp, and we can also sling hot cans up to the fire line with a rotor-wing ship. So after the first 2-3 days, more wildland firefighters get 2 hot meals in camp and sack lunches on the line. MRE's are just to supplement if necessary.
